Today, we discussed writing critical/analytical essay conclusions. I gave you two websites to go to for additional help: http://essayinfo.com/ and http://www.essaystart.com/
You essay is tomorrow and your multiple choice exam is on Friday.
I then gave you the following notes:
Concluding paragraph
The fifth paragraph is the summary paragraph.
· Remind the reader that, through the evidence, you have proven the main points; therefore, your thesis is a sound (good) one. You want to convince your reader that yours is the right point of view and well supported as such.
·This paragraph should contain:
1. an allusion to the pattern used in the introductory paragraph,
2. a restatement of the thesis statement (see above)
3. a summary of the three main points from the body of the essay (see above).
4. a final statement that shows some deeper understanding of the topic or the issue presented (see 1), (reflection on topic; a cause/effect relationship if there is a change related to the topic: an alternate ending).
Living unconstrained by conventions
Nora’s struggle with convention would not be as profound today as it was then. Today, women do step out of their assigned roles: entering the workforce, being equal partners with their husbands, and, most importantly, being regarded as equal under the eyes of the law. However, even today, a woman leaving her children is suspect. Perhaps we still need to work then, on seeing men as equal when it comes to the roles of nurturers.
