Today, we discussed the importance of attention getters in the writing of the critical/analytical essay. We identified a number of types of attention-getters, which I have listed below:
definition
quotation
little known or striking fact
statement that you intend to challenge
general statement about human nature (relating to topic)
anecdote
rhetorical question
I then gave you a handout on the introductory paragraph as well as a handout on previously used critical/analytical questions from Alberta Learning.
I finished up by mapping out A Doll's House using the 2005 question.
For tonight, I want you to highlight all of the topic words in these questions.
